Tank was a nuisance. The fact that he was a 95 lb pit bull x lab nuisance made him a BIG problem. Tank had severe separation anxiety, doggy paranoia, and other social problems. This led him to howl in his crate when we were living in an apartment, bust out of his crate, and tear apart everything in sight… $45 Rainbow flip flops, $180 digital camera, gift bags, etc.
When we took him out the mere sight of a dog sent him to growling, shivering, hackles standing up and others looked down upon behavior. When I knew I could afford it I called Allison at Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston desperate for help. I had seen the work of this company before from my parent’s dog in Charlotte, NC and knew if anyone could help me this company could. Tank fortunately had lots of at home obedience training from an unemployed mom and that of course was very helpful. We purchased the All American Package and went to work.
I love this company because they don’t just keep you at home.
My biggest problem with Tank was going for a walk with the possibility of seeing another dog and being embarrassed by his behavior. She brought another trainer’s dog and we worked with her when we discovered that Tank really just didn’t know how to react to other dogs. With this new information I purchased a muzzle and went to a few group classes at Hampton Park, went to visits to the dog park, went to another trainer’s house who had large dogs for Tank to work with, and even went to another house call with other clients who had dysfunctional dogs. This did wonders for him.
Although I know now that Tank might never be a dog park dog, I know that he CAN have doggy friends with a little bit of work. I have now since moved back to Rock Hill, SC and the work with Tank is never ending. We don’t go to dog parks any more but his agreeable behavior has led us to add to our 4 legged family. We now have Scarlett, his little sister, a 1/4 pit bull, a 1/4 boxer, and 1/2 German lab mix. Our cousin also has 2 of her brothers and Jacob’s (my husband) brother has a 6 month old pit bull and we have a whole herd of friends for Tank now!
Thank you sooo much!
