Once again, Well Mannered Dog Training, has helped me pull together our little canine family. About five years ago, I adopted an abused and untrained Beagle, Copper. He was completely untrained at 7 months old when he was thrust on me and I had no idea how to deal with his incessant chewing, howling and generally destructive behavior. I couldn’t even walk him on a leash because he would go crazy if he saw another dog, cat, human or insect for that matter. I called Well Mannered Dog Training and 6 weeks later, I had the best trained dog on the block, literally.
Fast Forward 5 years and Copper is doing wonderfully. Unfortunately he had developed a few unexpected behavioral issues because of changes in our life. My girlfriend moved in with a new dog, my two roommates that copper grew up with moved out and we adopted a 3rd dog all within a year. I was feeling pretty overwhelmed too. As a result Copper developed a unique aggression problem with two main components:
1. He had a propensity to snap at peoples’ faces only when they woke him up. It seems easily solved by avoiding the sleeping dog, but biting must be taken very seriously, especially when his target is a face.
2. He was aggressive/violent to the new dog whenever she came anywhere near him.
My girlfriend and I, even after reading a number of books, had no idea how to work Copper through these unusual behaviors. We called Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston and Allison came to our rescue.
In-home training cannot be beat. We needed to be able to recreate the situations where Copper would become irritated and we knew that we would not be able to recreate this behavior at a pet store or field somewhere with a dozen other dogs. Allison was able to customize a program and worked with us weekly. I’m happy to report that not only has Copper not bitten anyone, he and our newest dog are the absolute best of friends.
Once again, Well Mannered Dog Training has brought our family back together. I strongly and confidently recommend their specialized training and professionalism to anyone. Whether you need to teach a dog to sit and stay or have more unique challenges, call Well Mannered Dog Training.
