We decided our dog, Lexi, needed training when she was about six months old. She was still not totally house trained, and she was biting, chewing, barking, digging and just not listening. She would run away any chance she got and we were just really tired of it. If it hadn’t been for Well Mannered Dog Training we would have taken her back to the SPCA. I looked on the Internet for dog trainers and read about people’s experiences with the different trainers in the area. We decided to go with Well Mannered Dog Training.

We started out with John as our trainer and we immediately started to see results. We had completed about half of the sessions when we were notified that Tanya would be taking over the training. At first we were concerned that Lexi would be confused by switching trainers, but it really didn’t phase her. Each trainer has their own style, but the results are still the same. As long as you practice you will get the results. Tanya did a great job of showing Lexi who was boss, answering any questions that we had and making me in particular not dread the whole session. She was friendly and open and I didn’t feel uncomfortable or judged when I participated.

We will definitely recommend Well Mannered Dog Training to anyone who is having problems with their dog. This was a much better and happier solution for everyone. Thank you for making Lexi a great addition to the family!

Zoey, the Pit Bull Mix

Zoey, the Pit Bull Mix

I wanted to let everyone know exactly how much I appreciate Tanya and Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston working with my Zoey and me. It was a great challenge and I believe that they did a great job. We accomplished almost every problem I had with her.

With Tanya’s advice, I will take her to the group classes to work with her problem of confrontation.

It was very fun and interesting the different hurdles we had Zoey go through. They all worked well, better then I had expected.

Thank you so much!!

I called upon Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston for training of my adopted 8-1/2 year old Maltese. She had many puppy traits at her age and would not respond to leash and normal commands. She was frightened of most people especially men. Allison came to us and with her expertise and positive approach to Dixie’s problems. As a result she greets female visitors in the most friendly and loving way. She is now only wary of men where as before she snarled, barked then cowered around them.

I cannot give enough praise for Allison’s successful re-training of an old dog. I would recommend her to anyone with a troubled pet. Because of this training I can keep Dixie.

Thank you.

Harlequin Great Dane Puppy

Viola, the Harlequin Great Dane Puppy

I am writing this letter to let you know how pleased we were with the training our Great Dane, Viola, received from Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston.

I decided to use the Well Mannered Dog Training services after some research on the internet. I wanted to start the training for Viola as soon as possible but she was too young to get into the classes that were offered at certain places in Charleston. I thought the training in the home would be perfect. She would be comfortable in our home and would have the one on one training that I wanted.

Tanya did a great job with us. Viola loved to see her walk in the door. Soon after Tanya arrived for the days lessons, Viola did figure out that she was there for school and not fun! Every week Tanya came prepared to teach us the next lesson. She made sure we understood the reasons the way they were done and that we practiced with Viola at least 30 minutes a day. A great example is when we tried to walk Viola on a leash. I wanted to take her for walks but as soon as I put the leash on her, she threw a big hissy fit and sounded like we were killing her! Tanya said it was normal and to keep the leash on her and keep trying. In less than two weeks we were walking her around the neighborhood, showing her off! She loves her walks now! We knew that we had to make sure Viola was taught who the boss was! She is going to be a big dog and we have to make sure we have control over her. She learned quickly and still does the tricks and commands that she learned with Tanya. I was very impressed with her!

I would recommend Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston to anyone with a dog, young or old.

We recently went to the group dog class at Hampton Park and learned you can teach an old dog new tricks. Viola was the youngest one there, but there was a 9 year old golden retriever that seemed to be an excellent student!

Thank you so much for your services and we will recommend you to friends and neighbors!

Shih-Tzu

Dallas, the Shih-Tzu

We initially contacted Allison for our Shih Tzu Dallas’s thunderstorm phobia. During storms he would yelp uncontrollably and if in his crate he would bite into the bars and throw himself around. If not in his crate he would run around frantically and go to the bathroom in the house. We also noticed that Dallas was very clingy to me (Karen) and he was happiest spending his time sitting on my foot.

After an evaluation Allison helped us understand that our dog had a lot of insecurity issues, and helping him over come these issues would also help with his phobia. It didn’t take very long into our training for Dallas to not only learn a variety of fun tricks but to also become more independent. We were completely astonished one night when he disappeared and we found him downstairs chewing on a bone! Before training he would NEVER have gone even 2 feet from my side. As for thunderstorms, he can either be in his crate with a mere occasional bark after thunder claps or he’ll lay calm (for the most part) on the floor.

Dog training is a continuous process, and for Dallas to behave his best we work with him daily. Allison gave us all the tools we needed to turn our dog from something we were ready to give away into a great member if the family.

We would highly recommend Allison and Well Mannered Dog Training Charleston for your dog training needs!

Thanks Allison!
