Well Mannered Dog Training was started in 1989 in Charlotte, NC under the name Mark Thompson Dog Training. Our philosophy is simple, get the dog trained for the owner. Our goal has always been to adapt many types of training to execute the owners’ goals, rather than trying to prove that one training system is better then the next.

Do to the growth of the company, the name was changed to Dog Training In your Home in 1994. At that time the company grew to Asheville, then Greenville, then Charleston, then Columbia, and it just kept branching out. There are now over 20 locations in 6 states. We always keep our growth in line with our abilities to take care of our customers.

Qualifications

Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, our corporate headquarters is able to provide excellent support for our training staff. We provide six seminars per year and require that our instructors continue their education as an ongoing concern. Our trainers are able to use any method of training needed to guide your dog in the right direction. Improving the canine to human bond is our goal. Clickers, praise, treats, leash, no leash… all these questions are answered by your dog’s temperament and each program is customized to you and your dog.

We are very selective about who we hire as a dog training instructor. Our dog trainers must have excellent communication skills with people and their dogs. We certify our instructors in each program we offer. All instructors must learn training concepts and our unique multi-method-training system™. Our dog trainers are tested in handling exercises, communication skills, and know an extensive array of problem solving procedures. Unlike most dog trainers, we are not trying to prove the one method of training is the best. Once we start training your dog, we will use our multi-method-training system™ to suit your dog’s personality and temperament. This process will advance your dog at a steady rate of training and ensure that you can see quick results and track your dog’s progress.

This warrantee guarantees you will have access to a dog training representative for the life of your dog. During the initial training, our dog training instructors will teach your dog everything within the program enrolled. Once your dog learns the new better behavior, we will show you how to maintain the training. If your dog should regress, we are just a phone call away. We guide you in the right direction and get your dog back on track. If a courtesy lesson in your home is required, there in no charge to you. This is part of our Betterdog Lifetime Warrantee.

Multi Method Training System™ – There are trainers that only use a clicker and food, others that only use corrections, and there are even trainers that think every dog should be punished as a primary method of training. They say the only two things dog trainers can agree on is why any system other then there own is wrong. Our dog training staff is required to learn several different methods of training, then they very skillfully decide the type of training that will help your dog though the training process. Simply put, we focus on your goals. Remember that not all dogs learn the same. Dogs can be motivated in many ways.

Betterdog Training Tune-ups – All of our programs come with follow up training in the form of our Betterdog Training Tune-ups. Our training is first conducted in and around your home. This allows us to limit the level of distractions to the level that your dog can handle. Once you’re dog is ready for more distractions, we seek out other people and dogs in and around your neighborhood. Once your in home training is complete. you and your dog can attend our monthly Betterdog Training Tune Ups. These are held at locate veterinarian offices and local parks. You will be given a login to our website so you can check the schedule and start attending as soon as your trainer sees fit.
